A wedding in the family! And a fashion parade from me!

Hello everyone

I hope I won’t bore you rigid with this blog, but I just have to tell you of an exceedingly happy event I went to a couple of days ago. This was my son’s wedding. A year ago he proposed to his partner, the mother of their two gorgeous children, Oscar aged nearly 6 and Lydia Rose aged 3 and a half, and the wedding that they arranged so well (I mean, what a day) was held last week at beautiful venue called Tottington Manor.

I will aim to not shower you with superlatives! Instead first, I will tell you how I built my outfit and then give you a glimpse  of the wedding with a few of the photos my other half, Bill took on the day.

This is the ‘Before’ photo! Do excuse the state of the bedroom! And that face? That’s exactly how I felt – we’d got up early.

What began to make me feel a bit better was me putting on some eye makeup!

Yay and three cheers – at last! I am using not only the Erborian CC creme, which evens out my complexion, plus the eyebrows which I have always been able to do, I also put on some eye liner and mascara! 

Then the dress. I had thought I might wear a lovely black and white dress bought 2 years ago. But oops! I tried it on and it didn’t fit well anymore. I’d put on weight. Quelle horreur!

Not to worry, I found (as in pounced) on a black maxi slip dress with a full skirt that I found in the dress agency I go to rather too often! Very reasonably priced at £24!

Then I bought a spotty blouse from M&S for £20 to cover my arms, which I had thought I would not bare. No, not ever, not me, but that changed when it became quite hot.

Here’s some of the jewellery I wore on the day.

I have many necklaces like that all bought from charity shops, but this was the one. The sparkly coloured ring was also a charity shop buy. But the other 3 I wear every day as they are my 2 gold wedding rings and my mother’s platinum ring that anchors them so they don’t fall off – my fingers have shrunk with age! I also wore two gold bracelets: one charity shop cheap buy and another my great-grandmother’s gold mesh bracelet bought when she was in India with my great-grandfather (who built railways out there).

Just going out of the shot is a pair of fingerless lace gloves, which I wore to both cover up my ancient hands and protect them from the sunlight whilst pushing the rollator around.

I had bought a huge black wide-brimmed hat, again from M&S, but on the day, I suddenly decided to try on a dinky straw hat I’ve had for simply ages. Here’s a close up of the hat.

And another pic so you can see it doesn’t overwhelm the outfit. As soon as I put it on I thought that’s the one, and as I was the only person to wear a hat at the wedding, I was glad I hadn’t gone over the top re: the hat department.

I spy my flesh-coloured bra on the floor – apologies. I was in the moment rather than arranging a more blog-type photo!

And finally I don’t think I have any photos of it to hand or on the day, but I bought a great little black bag with a gold chain at £12. So there you are, a whole mother-of-the-groom outfit for £56! Oh wait, I forgot the shoes! Add another nearly, but definitely under, £100. Still altogether not a bad sum, for a very important day. Pleased at being the frugal person I used to be!

I just want to introduce you to my family, but I hasten to add, none of us put up any photos of the little ones on public platforms. But they are very, very blonde and gorgeous.

Here is my equally lovely 20-yr-old grandson, Jesse and that is my son-in-law Dan.

This is just after the ceremony and the now married couple – my new daughter-in-law, Marion, with her new husband, Pete.

And below are two of Marion’s oldest friends who acted as the bridesmaids. The two little ones were also bridesmaid and page-boy. Pete takes after his Dad but see the red hair? That’s from my side of the family!

After the ceremony there were more drinks and then the wedding breakfast – at nearly tea-time!

I was so happy that day, so very happy. I shed tears at the ceremony itself, and again during the speeches when such nice things were said about Peter and Marion. Only two short speeches btw, which was so much better than the long speeches one can get at weddings, often with awful jokes, there was none of that. I think by now the eye liner had gone what with me dabbing my eyes and drying the tears! Then I cried again at their first dance when they looked so lovingly at each other.

I even danced myself, although, of course, I was holding on to Bill!

It was the best day ever. I was so happy.

After the cake cutting and more dancing, we left around 8.30pm. We did not have the stamina to stay until midnight, I mean from 12 midday to midnight? Nope! But even so we weren’t too tired. Just so delighted for the happy couple and elated and overjoyed at the whole event.

Back home, at last!

And that was the end of a simply great day when with all that was going on I felt no pain and thought not once about my health. All that was forgotten. I mean, I danced! It was all about Marion and Pete and their future together. It all came together and I was on cloud nine.

Two days later I had the usual adrenalin let-down and began fretting again about my ailments, but that’s another blog altogether.
